Wi-Fi Router Use in Student Residence Halls (Trial Basis)

Although ACCC used to prohibit the use of Wi-Fi routers in student residence halls in order to avoid connection problems, ACCC decided to approve the use of specific router models on a trial basis.
The reason for that is due to the rapid increase in the number of devices only equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity (e.g. smartphones, tablets, etc.).

Approved Router Models

BUFFALO WMR-300 I/O-DATA WN-G150TR

Note: Do not reveal your SSID and password to others.

Previously Approved Model

ELECOM WRH-150

Note: If you have already bought the above model, you may use it only after setting it to "Router Mode".

Wi-Fi Router Guidelines

ACCC does not provide or lend the above models.
ACCC does not provide technical support for the use of the above models. (ACCC provides technical support only when you connect your PC directly with a LAN cable.)
ACCC does not make adjustments to solve radio wave interference issues that might be caused by Wi-Fi routers.
ACCC might prohibit the use of the above models depending on circumstances.

Criteria for Selecting Wi-Fi Routers

The above two router models were selected based on the below criteria (as of April 2014):

The model has only one wired LAN port.
A combination of SSID and password is appropriately assigned to every product.
The output level is appropriately adjusted for small room use.

Note: ACCC will add more models to the list based on the above criteria. At present no other models except the above two have been approved.

Warnings

Never connect to a LAN port of a Wi-Fi router with multiple ports when the router is connected to the information outlet.
(Only connect to the WAN port.) Doing otherwise would prevent other residents from accessing the Student Residence Hall Network System.

Never turn on the router function of a Wi-Fi router switchable between “Router mode” and “Bridge mode”
