Student Residence Hall Network System

Information outlets equipped in Hirasuna, Oikoshi, Ichinoya, and Kasuga student residences are provided as part of the Student Residence Hall Network System.

Please note that authentication methods have been changed due to our system renewal on March 30, 2010.

Use of anti-virus software is strongly recommended

For safe network usage, the University of Tsukuba distributes anti-virus software (Windows) to all students in the dormitories. All residents must install this anti-virus software on thier PCs before connecting to the network. Detailed information is available on the Guide for Anti-virus Software for Student Residents page.

Use of peer-to-peer file sharing software is strongly prohibited

The University of Tsukuba does not permit the use of P2P file sharing software. Please note that we remotely monitor network utilization at all times.

Support in case of problems

ACCC offers support for network problems weekdays from 8:45 to 17:15 (except during lunch break). Generally, if a problem is reported in the morning, it will be handled in the afternoon; if in the afternoon, the next working day morning. Please note that problems may be hadled later than this depending on the schedule of the persons in charge.

Before you connect: step-by-step usage instructions

Requirements

  • A PC equipped with a 10Base-T or 100 Base-TX wired LAN connection.
  • LAN cable (UTP, standard straight type)
  • Web browsing software

Pre-configuration

  • Set your OS to automatically acquire its IP address from a DHCP server.

How to connect

  1. Connect one end of the LAN cable to your PC's LAN interface and the other end to the information outlet in your room.
  2. Access the following URL page via Web browser and press the "Confirm" button after you have carefully read and agree to the terms of use.
    http://www.cc.tsukuba.ac.jp/network/access/
  3. Enter your user ID (UTID-13) and password on the next page and press the "Login" button. Your PC will be connected if successful.

Limitations

  • Our university does not allow any in-bound connections whose destination ports are 1-1023/TCP or in the 1-1023/UDP range. Other ports and protocols are not limited at this time.
