Suspension of Computer and Network System Operations during University Wide Power Outage (2015/10/24, 25)

The University of Tsukuba will be implementing a campus wide power outage on Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, 2015, which will necessitate the suspension of computer and network system operations.

■ Tsukuba Campus Network System
While the main network system will continue to work through this period, the floor switches will turn off and it will be impossible to gain access via the campus common areas or classrooms (On-Campus Wi-Fi System will be inoperable due to the power cut off) as follows.

North, Central, South and West Areas (excluding Ichinoya, Hirasuna and Oikoshi Dormitories)
Saturday October 24     7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Sunday October 25         7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Kasuga Area (including Kasuga Dormitory)
Saturday October 24     8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Emails coming from outside of the university system will be delivered as soon as the department server is back online provided the server is set to receive emails through the mail gateway. Otherwise, the e-mails may be returned to the sender depending on the configuration of servers along the delivery path.

The Student Residence Hall Network System will be available except in Kasuga Dormitory on each day. However, the system will be unavailable during another electrical equipment inspection held in Dormitories (excluding Kasuga Dormitory):

Hirasuna/ Oikoshi Dormitory Thursday, October 22 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Ichinoya Dormitory      Friday, October 23  9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The network of the other areas including Tokyo campus will not be affected, but it will, naturally, be impossible to connect to the suspended servers in the Tsukuba Campus area.

■ Zengaku Computer System
Saturday October 24    7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Sunday October 25      7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

The mail server for addresses ending with “@u.tsukuba.ac.jp” and the web mail server for those ending with “@u.tsukuba.ac.jp” as well as the web server will operate as usual. All other services will be suspended. All satellite computer rooms will be available except for those affected by the power outage.

■ The Learning Management System (manaba) will operate as normal. However,
“movie button” will be inactive during the following period:
6:10 PM on Friday, October 23 to 8:30 AM on Monday, October 26

■ The Remote Lecture/Automatic Recording Lecture System will be interrupted during the following period:
6:10 PM on Friday, October 23 to 8:30 AM on Monday, October 26

■ The Educational Cloud System will be interrupted during the following period:
3:00 PM on Friday, October 23 to 12:00 PM on Monday, October 26

■ The TSUKUBA OCW will be interrupted during the following period:
3:00 PM on Friday, October 23 to 12:00 PM on Monday, October 26

■ The rental server will operate as normal.
