CAL(Client Access License)

Modified:2026-06-17

A Client Access License (CAL) is a license required when a client (user or device) accesses various Microsoft servers.
At the University of Tsukuba, the following CALs may be used under the Microsoft Enrollment for Education Solutions (EES) agreement:

  • Windows Server CAL
  • Exchange Server Standard CAL
  • SharePoint Server Standard CAL
  • System Center Configuration Manager CML

※The server operating system itself, such as Windows Server 2012, is not included in the EES agreement and must be purchased separately.
※A CAL grants the right to use the service, no license configuration is required on the server side.
※This contract is based on the number of faculties, and applies only within the scope covered by faculties.

Notes
※The CALs listed above do not cover Remote Desktop connections to Windows Server (RDS CAL). For details, please refer to “Is there RDS (Remote Desktop Services) here?
※CALs that are not listed on this page, such as External Connector Licenses, are not included in the EES contract. If needed, each organization should purchase them separately.
※When purchasing these licenses, you may be eligible for a discount by informing the vendor that the University of Tsukuba has an EES contract.
